Budget Collab ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website.

1. Information We Collect

Personal Information

We may collect personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, and profile photo when you create an account.

Financial Information

Budget Collab stores financial data you enter — transactions, budgets, payroll records, savings goals, and payment schedules. This data is encrypted locally on your device and in transit to our servers.

Usage Data

We collect anonymous usage statistics (feature interactions, crash reports, performance metrics) to improve the app experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the app
  • Sync your data across devices when you sign in
  • Send push notifications for reminders and scheduled payments
  • Respond to support inquiries
  • Analyze usage patterns to enhance features

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored locally on your device using Hive (an encrypted local database) and synced to Firebase when you are online. All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using industry-standard TLS protocols. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only in the following circumstances:

  • With your consent (e.g., inviting collaborators to a budget)
  • To comply with legal obligations
  • To protect our rights and safety
  • With service providers who help us operate (Firebase, crash reporting) under strict data processing agreements

5. Data Deletion & Account Closure

You have full control over your data. Here's how deletion works:

Deleting Specific Data

You can delete individual transactions, budgets, goals, and other records directly within the app at any time. These deletions are permanent after sync.

Deleting Your Account

To delete your entire account and all associated data:

  • In-app: Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. You'll be prompted to confirm your choice.
  • By email: Send a deletion request to privacy@budgetcollab.app from the email address associated with your account. We will process your request within 7 business days.

What Gets Deleted

Upon account deletion, we permanently erase your profile information, budget data, transactions, payroll records, savings goals, scheduled payments, and all other personal data from our servers. Local data on your device must be removed by uninstalling the app or clearing app data.

Retention After Deletion

We retain a minimal record of your account for up to 30 days after deletion to prevent accidental loss. After this period, all remaining data is permanently deleted or anonymized. We may retain certain information longer if required by applicable law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., tax records for processed payments).

Data Backup Deletion

Data deleted from our live systems is purged from our backup systems within 90 days.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we follow the deletion process described in Section 5. We may retain aggregated, anonymized data for analytics purposes after account deletion.

8. Children's Privacy

Budget Collab is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
